Frequently asked questions

I get that they’re gorgeous, but are they sturdy?

Absolutely! The cards can be opened hundreds of times. These limited edition collectible treasures will be enjoyed over and over. Perfect for a gift, a thank you, a birthday card, a keepsake, or to say “I love you.”

Are they suitable for mailing?

Yes. They’re individually packaged in cellophane with a cream colored envelope that requires two standard U.S. postage stamps. There’s space on the card to write your own message.

Are they "origami"?

Not exactly. Origami usually refers to paper sculptures whose shapes are folded. Pop-up cards are closer to the Japanese art of kirigami, which involves cutting a piece of paper as well as folding. But kirigami typically uses one piece of paper and our pop-ups use up to 50. They are designed on a computer, cut with a laser and then individually assembled by hand – a happy marriage of modern technology and ancient artisanal craftsmanship.

I worry that products I buy from developing nations are produced in sweatshops.

Worry not. Our cards are assembled in a clean, well-lit, air-conditioned workshop by employees who are equitably paid and receive health insurance. We are an anti-sweatshop company, and our mission includes fairness as well as beauty.
