Happy Birthday, America.
The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French to the United States celebrating 1oo years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The statue is recognized around the world as a sign of of freedom, liberty and acceptance and is located on Liberty Island in New York harbor. Between 1886 and 1924, almost 14 million immigrants entered the United States through New York. The Statue was a reassuring sign that they had safely arrived in the land of their dreams.
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” This country’s greatness and true genius lies in its diversity.
