The Pop Up:
The skeleton man is wearing a traditional mariachi tuxedo and playing the guitar. The skeleton woman wears her hair in a long braid and shakes the maraca, a dried gourd rattle. They are welcoming and honoring the deceased on Day of the Dead. Ghosts of their ancestors come to visit. Siempre en mi corazon, you are always in my heart.
Day of the Dead:
The Sugar Skull is a fun artistic tradition that Mexican families incorporate into their festivities for the Day of the Dead. The skulls are sometimes placed upon an altar to welcome deceased loved ones back home. During the holiday, many people decorate themselves with Sugar Skull makeup, including temporary Sugar Skull tattoos. The Day of the Dead starts just after the American holiday of Halloween, so you’ll see many Trick-or-Treaters, usually adults, wearing Sugar Skull designs.
Occasions for the Sugar Skull Card:
The Sugar Skull pop up is perfect to give during the Day of the Dead, also known as Dia de los Muertos, to honor and remember loved ones and to celebrate the lives they lived.
The Sugar Skull, called Calavera de Azúcar in Spanish, is the motif of the Day of the Dead, a holiday to remember those who have died. Largely celebrated in Mexico, where it is called Día de los Muertos, the custom dates back to pre-Hispanic civilizations from 2,500 to 3,000 years ago. It is a day reserved for honoring loved ones who have passed away.
