How does a bulldozer work?
A bulldozer (sometimes called a “dozer”) is a large, motorized machine equipped with a metal blade in front for pushing soil, sand, snow, rubble, or rock during construction work.
The key to bulldozer power is their continuous track. The track allows it to float over soft ground by distributing the weight of the machine over the tracks. Because their weight is balanced, they successfully function in areas where a wheeled machine would have difficulty maneuvering or get stuck. These tracks also provide the tremendous amount of traction needed to push material with the dozer blade or rip up hard surfaces with the ripper.
Typically, bulldozers are large and powerful tracked heavy equipment. The tracks give them excellent ground-holding capability and mobility through very rough terrain. Extra-wide tracks are known as swamp tracks or low ground pressure (lgp) tracks.
Bulldozers, also known as dozers, crawler tractors, or crawler loaders, are found on just about every mining and construction site worldwide.
Bulldozer personality (!)
A bulldozer can run over any rubble or trash and clear it away, leading to slang meaning “powerful, intimidating person.”
