Description
This is Beatrice Foster’s chandelier.
When we were growing up in Miami, my family lived next door to the Foster family on Biscayne Point Road. The Fosters were always making things!
They owned a company called American Art Industries of Florida, established in 1939. It was an art factory for home goods.
I got to visit the factory in Hialeah. It was magic! They made everything for the home except furniture! All accessories! Pictures, figurines, all table top items, small tables, chairs, planters. And chandeliers.
The parents were Theodore and Beatrice Foster. Their sons, our playmates, were Richard and Barry.
Theodore died at the age of 89.
Beatrice was born in 1918. That makes her 100 years old.
I met Richard’s wife Jeanne Foster at Merrick Park in Coral Gables. We talked about the old days, and how Ted and Beatrice started a lighting company, and how Richard grew it into a large and successful business.
Jeanne asked me to make a Chandelier pop-up card to honor Beatrice. Here it is.
So Swing on the Chandelier! Hang from the rafters! Have a jolly good time!
This card is for the person who glitters in your life, your shining star, the twinkle overhead, for a birthday, for every milestone and celebration. A sparkling gift for an architect, interior designer, sculptor, a centenarian. For anyone who remember the hard working immigrants and glamour of old Miami Beach.
This one’s for Bea. Love, Julie
