I read this story in 2004 SFGate magazine of C.C. and Sher, two of the first California lesbians to marry:
“C.C.’s famous for saying this, and sometimes she annoys me because she says it all the time, “I don’t want any more than anyone else, but I want just as much.” It’s true. Somehow there has to be a way for society to bless any loving, committed couple who comes together. It’s like what C.C. says. I just want what everybody else has.”
Where does the term love is love come from?
This is a slogan from the marriage equality movement. It’s a reaction to those who think same-sex relationships are somehow inferior to opposite-sex relationships. This slogan says, no, they’re not inferior and the quality of love is not different from that felt by opposite-sex couples.
